Travel Review / A Weekend in Providenciales Turks & Caicos

This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time in Providenciales Turks & Caicos. Sunrise Airways has daily flight service to Providenciales Turks & Caicos . If you are coming from Port-au-Prince you get on the first flight to Cap Haitien and from Cap Haitien you breeze through immigration onto your connecting international flight with out having to worry about the hassle of baggage transfer, Sunrise handles that all quite smoothly. When you arrive in Providenciales you can then catch a cab to your hotel or if you book through one of our travel agents / tour partners in Providenciales they can set up your entire trip for you so you can simply relax.

I stayed at the Club Med, it is a bigger resort there and has a nice beach and many activities. If you are looking for an adventure or to have some privacy I would recommend one of the smaller hotels in the area. The photos below are from the beach front outside Club Med , the beach connects to pretty much everything you need on that side of the bay. If you want to get off the resort and experience some local culture you can head over to Ricki’s which just to your right of Club Med on the beach, they have a great conch salad.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with my friend Morgan over there who is a local , this was great for me because  I got to experience Providenciales through her eyes. Morgan and her partner Greg run Surf Side Ocean Academy an outdoor adventure school offering camps for kids and teens, eco adventures for families,  professional swim lessons and babysitting services.

Are you a fan of sea food? If so the Turks & Caicos islands are the place to be for you. They have an abundance of conch , you can have conch in a variety of ways… I tried 5 different conch dishes over the weekend, two were similar but pretty tasty. I was able to photograph the fishermen on the beach preparing the conch on site to give to the beach bar and grill. I would recommend trying a conch salad with a nice white wine or strawberry daiquiri .

In terms of local souvenirs there was a few shops but my favourite was right on the beach run by a lady named Porcha. All of her items were handcrafted locally and some of the materials had to be imported but none the less I managed to find a cute stone beaded bracelet to take home.

I would strongly recommend Providenciales for a weekend getaway from Haiti and if you can manage it take a whole week and unwind. The beaches are amazing, the locals are kind and welcoming and with daily flight service with Sunrise Airways you can travel with ease. Turks & Caicos is perfect for all types of travellers , singles, newlyweds looking for romance , seniors and families .

To book your trip you can reach out to Chloe of Marco Travel in Providenciales  to book a flight or if you are looking to book a package you can reach out to Ben at Caicu Naniki Tours, both are working directly with Sunrise.
